Every video made by Peninsula Films is unique. However, over the years we have developed a standard Production Protocol to ensure best practice and efficiency. Although the work carried out varies according to individual requirements, the Production Protocol is applied to the four key stages of production, as follows:
Stage One: Pre-Production
Proposal
In response to the client's brief we provide a creative treatment, programme budget and production schedule. This may be amended to suit individual client's needs.
Research
We carry out an in-depth investigation into the subject of the video, including related issues, potential interviewees and other contributors, plus background and reference material.
Casting and Location
We find the best people and places for each production, whether it's a drama or a film about a product or service.
Stage Two: Production
Script Writing
For promotional and corporate productions we write the voice-over or dialogue script in advance of any filming or graphics production. For documentary-type films we produce an outline shooting script that is completed during the editing process.
Filming
Once the script is agreed, a shot list and shooting schedule is produced so that both the producer/director and the client know exactly what's to be filmed and when. Principal photography usually takes several days filming with a minimum crew comprising a producer/director, cameraman and sound recordist. Additional crew members are employed as necessary.
Graphics
2D and 3D graphics are increasingly important. We begin work as soon as the script and any necessary reference materials are available. Complex graphics can be the single most expensive and time-consuming element of a production.
Stage Three: Post Production
Off-line edit
This is the stage of editing where all the creative decisions are made about content, pacing, etc. We produce a first draft off-line edit for presentation to the client, then further versions until the client is fully satisfied.
Voice-over recording, On-line edit and Audio-dub
Once the off-line edit is agreed, we record the voice-over using a professional actor or presenter and produce an on-line edit at full broadcast quality. Finally, we add the voice-over and mix the rest of the audio content, including music.
Stage Four: Delivery
Mastering and Copying
The final programme in the form of a digital file or master tape is copied to other formats for distribution as required. These include CD, DVD, QuickTime and Windows Media Video formats. We can also provide video and CD packaging and design.
